Master of Public Policy
With Sanford’s Master of Public Policy (MPP), you’ll develop as an ethical and inclusive leader using evidence-based tools and rigorous policy analysis. Choose from seven policy-area concentrations including Environment and Energy, Health, and Technology. MPP graduates are analysts, managers, and leaders in various levels of business, government, and nonprofit organizations in the United States and around the world.
Master of International Development Policy
The Duke MIDP is a self-designed, interdisciplinary degree that equips mid-career professionals from around the world with the analytical tools and technical expertise necessary to become global leaders in sustainable development efforts. The program is administered by the Duke Center for International Development (DCID), based in the Sanford School of Public Policy. When you graduate, you’ll be in the company of alumni spanning more than 100 countries working with international development agencies, in the private sector, and in local, state, and national governments across the globe.
Sanford School fellowships
The Ladd Fellowship is awarded to top MPP applicants with a strong background and interest in education.
The recipient will be awarded the full cost of tuition, along with a generous living stipend. In addition to the standard MPP application, applicants should prepare a brief statement of interest (2-page maximum) detailing their interest in the Ladd Fellowship and how it will benefit them, including previous education policy experience, key areas or topics of interest, and future professional goals and direction. This additional statement should be uploaded along with your MPP statement of purpose within the application.
The Sanford Family Fellowship honors MPP student leaders with outstanding commitments to addressing public policy disparities affecting predominantly underserved communities.
This prestigious MPP fellowship covers full tuition and mandatory fees and includes a living stipend. Students will be considered based on their academic credentials and demonstrated interest in focusing on challenges that underserved communities face in contemporary society.
Incoming or current MIDP or MPP students interested in sustainable development, nation-building, or conflict resolution in Armenia and/or the surrounding region may receive whole or partial fellowships.
MPP applicants must upload a separate statement describing their interest in Armenia or the surrounding region and their professional goals.
The Robert C. Ketner Fellowship provides full or partial tuition scholarships to graduate students enrolled in the Sanford School of Public Policy and who are pursuing a Master of International Development Policy (MIDP) or a Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree.
The Paul D. Coverdell Peace Corps Fellows Program is in partnership with United States Peace Corps. To be eligible, one must be a returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV) and submit a description of service (DOS) with their application.
All RPCVs are considered for this award. The award carries a 50% tuition scholarship. In addition, fellows use the skills they developed working abroad to complete community service internships for local, underserved communities during the academic year. The community service internships are paid $4000 per semester for 4 semesters.
The Lethem Fellowship is for graduate students who are currently or will be at the time this fellowship is received, enrolled in the Master of International Development Policy (MIDP) at the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University.
It provides a full or partial tuition scholarship. Preference is given to students from low-income countries, ideally from Africa.
The Eva Staton Scholarship is for students originating from and committed to the development of the Latin America and Caribbean region. All MIDP students are considered for this scholarship based on materials included in their application.

The Global Service Fellowship (GSF) offers 1-2 full or partial tuition scholarships to admitted MIDP students who have completed at least one year of service outside their country of origin.
The award recognizes overseas service done with an organization engaged in the broad field of international development. Such organizations may include faith-based organizations, nonprofit organizations, corporate volunteer programs, and government volunteer programs (e.g. World Friends Korea, Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV), African Union Youth Volunteer Corps, the United Nations volunteer program, Atlas Corps, etc.).
Returned Peace Corps Volunteers are served by the Coverdell Peace Corps Fellows program and are not eligible for this award.
In addition, MPP and MIDP applicants can access various other Sanford School fellowships (over 20, combined!) based on their regional focus, country of origin, or demonstrated impact in public service and policy.
A number of external funding options are also available through Sanford School partners, including AmeriCorps, City Year, Peace Corps, Teach for America, and Yellow Ribbon.
